I just read an article on the egge machine websight about a stroker stovebolt. What interested me was the addition of theads in the front of the crank for an aftermarket harmonic balancer.Anyone ever done this?

Hy Dustman I drill and tap all the crankshafts of the engines I rebuild, if they aren't already done.

Yes, using the stock balancer is fine.

I drilled mine on the truck with the radiator/grill removed. In the future, when I take a crank in to a machine shop, I'll have it drilled there.

Here's what use on mine.

Ya probably wouldn't want to go this far out, but at the bottom of the page are a few pixs of how I do mine now. This is a 216 that's in my 1950, 3600.

I've got to polish the crank so I thought I'd just have the machine shop do it.Unless they want an arm and leg cause mine ar currently in use.Thats a nice little guide you've built Denny!
Do you guys use the stock balancer, or is there a better one you can recommend?

The stock balancer is fine as long as it's not damaged, usually by someone trying to pull it off by the outer ring with a jaw type puller. Simple job to drill the crank, they shouldn't charge you to much.
