Caroline and I drove, drive Lucinda ''otter-purr'' Bolt yahoo yesterday for the first time since the 47 3speed tranny/ floor shift gave out some 5 years ago. That's what started this BIG learning curve like autoshop 101. I could NOT have done it with out all you bolters that helped me work through issues. we just went around the neighborhood streets, she's a non-op [dmv]. wave WOW yahoo what fun, I took her thru the first 3 gears & rev. I was very happy the clutch linkage was adjusted correctly because of the completely home made adjuster mechanism http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/1951otter/?action=view&current=8A.jpg
http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/1951otter/?action=view&current=7A.jpg , that we made when we fitted & put the 292 in her almost 3+ years ago. the take-off from stop was smooth, first was very nice, the 500 edelbrock just idled smoothly and pick-up /torque was smooth also running thru the first 3 gears. i have not rejetted her yet. that carb is straight out of the box pretty much. the fan functioned as it should at 195degrees, i was getting worried but knew she 'd be ok as i ran her before I hung all the front sheet metal ...20-30 minutes @2000rpm for the cam break-in back in november. I got almost all the wiring done and ALL works fine. cool thumbs_up
now the seat gets re-upholstered w/ heated pads and matching material for the cab bits.

pictures soon

a BIG thanks to you ALL , for your kind help and words. wave

Congratulations. I am still so far from a drive I can barley see it from here. It sure helps to know that at least someone is getting close. I will be looking for the photos. I am down to one small patch of rust in the very top of the cab and hope to prime the cab this weekend. That will make me feel like I am getting somewhere.

"SMILE" Alvin? Heck I'll bet you could see every tooth in his head.
Congrads Jim, you do good work. I

I still need to finish mocking up the front sheetmetal, install the gas pedal, install the steering column, finish the interior, get a bed from Mar-k, have a few small items chromed, and then paint her.
Maybe I can drive her out to grass valley when I'm finished. I hope we're both alive by then.

The engine you put together is awesome! I'm only about 3 hours away so I hope to be able to see your truck in person at some point. Looking forward to seeing the finished truck.

Congratulations and nice work Jim. That 292 looks mighty mean in there and I hope you’re enjoying it regularly soon.

we got her licensed last week ...... finally. just b4 our car show .... see photos in ''ya shoulda been there''. sorry not many.
. we got her into all 5 & rev gears drive and took her up to 55 several times. yahoo she pulls like a raped @&# thumbs_up in all gears. we live in the foothills @ 2400' so hills were a concern but no problems ohwell that i can feel/see. i have a 3.40:1 rear end, 6 lug, T5 hybrid, corvette clutch & PP, w/ an edelbrock 500cfm w/ mildest cam. take off from first gear could not be nicer. yahoo we have Not even messed w/ the carb as she was brand new oftb. laalaa the linkage i made works v-well w/ plenty of stock pedal to push & thumbs_up & I'm so very happy smile about that side of this whole endeavor go figure. but next week we'll look carefully at her whole engine. she got stovebolt dual headers so 2 into one pipe w/ a quiet walker muff, i forgot just how sweet sounding 6's are. dance I'm just putting on 50-70 miles to see how she feels. the stock ford astro van seat is the next item to deal w/ it's a little low for me @ 6-3. she shifts link a dream, both up/down & w/ that adjuster we made, makes it very nice, see pics link. the completely rebuilt front end works v-well and really not bad. wink i still want to do sway bars F/R and steering shock. she has no wheel shimmy. and after i put some more air in those tires after sitting in the shop for yrs. WOW cool it's smoother than i remember. he,he,he caroline is wanting wave grin to drive her but it's v-hard to see over the hood. so rethink the seat frame, up 3'' and off to the upholsterer.
Ps it's the only way i could get my 52 in the show ... they really don't like M/C's

Great to see your truck on the road. It looks great but as nice as it is, I am more impressed with the cargo you had in the back. Is that yours?

I already had those bookmarked, that is why I was curious about the height adjustment you are looking to do. I am sure it will be first class, I just want to see how you do it.

Way to go Jim! I've followed your progress with great interest.

I know you'll enjoy driving your truck and will find many little projects along the way.

Best wishes,

Les
