Then open and close the hood several times to spread the lubrication. I can't tell you how many "sprung" hinges I "fixed" by oiling them. If you push down on the back of the hood and it's solid (won't push down) but high it needs adjusted.

Open the hood and loosen your hinge bolts a bit now lay a pc. of 4X4 across your hood latch in front of the radiator, now close the hood down and let it rest on the 4X4 and push the back of the hood down onto the cowl seal and have a partner tighten up the hinge bolts.
Give that a try it should fix you problem.

I used a 12" long pc. of a 4X4 that was here in the shop and it worked just fine I got a pile of em in the corner they come in handy for lots of things.

Persons 1&2 each place one hand on the top surface of the hood and the other hand on the vertical surface on both the passenger's and driver's side. With the block in place, both push down and back (with gusto) while the third person snugs down the interior bolts. With the interior bolts snug...raise the hood and tighten the remaining bolts.
Pop out the block and unless the hood has been seriously sprung, or your hinges are badly worn, she'll lay flat as a pancake. If you've got gaps between the hood and a fender, loosen the fender to core support bolts and make adjustments accordingly.
The key is to have the block, and 3 folks to get it to lay flat on the cowl. Hope this helps.

There have been cases where people have adjusted the hood hinges and then jammed the latch, which makes it a real pain to get loose!

A large group of professionals built the Titanic. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 20 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 20 | I've found on my truck that when the springs were not attached the hood laid flat against the cowl , as soon as i attached the springs it pushed the hood up in the back . It turned out that the hinges had so much slop at the pivot points that the pressure from the springs pushed the hood up . I haven't found how to fix the problem , i would like to replace the rivets in the hinge w/oversize ones . That would remove the slop. Has anyone done this repair before. Can new hinges be found ? mark | | |
