Is the problem the pump or the carb?
starts easy after that?? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 | I'm not sure of the construction of the Rochester but IMHO if you don't have fuel actually dripping out of the carb it's most likely siphoning back through the fuel pump. Do you have a glass globe fuel pump? If so is the globe full of gas before you try to start the engine? If it was only the float bowl being empty it wouldn't require too long of a crank to get it running. A long crank time indicates it's probably having to refill from the pump forward.
