But seriously try a little dish soap for lubrication. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 230 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 230 | Remove the cap (grin) Anyhow, had the same issue. They go on tight/hard. Put some vasaline on it, get your tongue set just right in your mouth, give yourself enough quality time, and it will go in given some prodding with the approriate screwdrivers. Some suggest to heat it in boiling water first, But I did not. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 15 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 15 | Thanks for the tips. It's a tight fit!!!

It might be a pain getting to the upper clamp, but there's 2 clamps on the hose connecting the tank to the filler neck. If you can get the upper clamp loose, you can twist the the neck and pull it out making it much easier to intall the new grommet.
Alternately some guys have used twine in the channel like installing a windshield, pulling the lip in from underneath. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 15 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 15 | I've pulled the old grommet out. The grommet fits over the neck but its hard to get the rubber to fit under the lip seal. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 78 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 78 | soap, pressure, and a small screwdriver. a beer doesn't hurt either.

One with neck inplace and one with neck pull out(like Markeb) Neck in place is hard but if you warm it up in hot water to make it softer and use sum flat head screw drivers its hard but do able. If u remove the neck : un do the hose clamp on the tank neck( lot easeier to get to lower hose calmp to reinstall). Pull neck out inside cab. Put new grommet in. Push neck with hose on up thru the grommet( lots of fun hold ur mouth just right). Slide back down on fuel tank neck. You can leave the hose on the fuel tank but you will not beable to see the top hose calmp. Good luck!!
