Hello I'm new here and have been looking for any info on new wheels for a 1953 4400.
I'm doing a full restore and would like to finish it off with some aluminum or chrome wheels. Any help would be great.
Thanks
Zack

Hy zgillette, If you go up to the top of the page and click on Tech Tips, and then Big Trucks, you will find a large article on wheels, hope that helps.

Here's the Wheel and tire Tech Tip

the short answer is no, you can't get chrome or aluminum wheels for your truck... that I know of unless you have some chromed.
Check the tech tip for more info, suggestions, and options.

If 19.5's will fit over your rear drums (won't on some trucks) then you can use simulator wheel covers. 19.5's wouldn't fit over my 48 rear drums though,

Wheels to fit ?
Would the hub be a 10 bolt, 71/4" bolt pattern, with a 4 3/4 in hole in it ?
What size would you like them to be along with being chrome ?

Dan,

What part of MO are you in? I need to replace my widow maker 20 X 8.25 tires on my 51 6400 Dump. I have the old rims & was planning on cutting out the center & welding on to an open 22.5 Radial rin. DO you do this type work

BTW I'm @ FLW MO & can bring the old rims to you.

Hey Airborne, I had thought about doing that also but haven't determined if the old wheel centers will fit in a 22.5 wheel.
I did that last year with two 26 in tractor wheels because they didn't sell new ones with the offset I needed for that tractor.

I'm 90 mi from Ft wood, west on 44 to Lebanon, then south on 5 hwy. to Ava Or you can come out the south end of the fort which is shorter but you can't drive as fast.

They should fit, or close enough to work just fine.
But you can't get the same or close to the backspacing the original wheels had.

Don't just take my word for it, check the measurements on the pieces you have and decide if it will work for you, and please post your findings.

I looked at my 20" wheels and see that the centers are attached to the rim at the edge of the rim. The OD of the centers are 19.5 in which would only fit a 22.5 wheel in the bump up portion of the rim.
I don't have a 22.5 wheel but usually that part is in the center of the rim which if the center were attached there would not give the offset needed, especially on the dually rears.

Here's what I need or would like---- A wheel manufacture that would sell me 22.5 blank wheels, like with no center hole or stud holes drilled in them. Then I could have a machine shop put in a 4.75 center hole and 10 stud holes in it.
I know, your probably saying Dream On big boy,but I've got an 8N running 24" rears and 12" fronts and they don't make wheels that size to fit an 8N
Maybe I could ask for those wheels in chrome or aluminum also, lol
Somewhere, somehow there's got to be a solution for this dilemma.

With unlimitted funds, anything is possible. If that's the case, have someone mill you a set on a CNC machine and have them polished to a chrome shine.

I tried to get some blank Alcoa’s, thinking I could do the same and they said NO I thought it would be really cool to have the hand/vent holes little Chevy bow ties set at an angle all the way around. Oh well momma always said you can wish in one hand and sh@t in the other and see witch fills up faster LOL. I do however have a set of the small pattern 10 lug 22.5s on my 56 1.5 ton GMC so they do exist without custom making them.
