Hello everyone,
I'm new here, and to the old fifties trucks.
I live up in Manitoba, Canada and just recently inherited a 1957 Chevy 3200 from my uncle that passed away.

I'm a little stuck on what his wishes were to do with the truck, and any suggestion would greatly be appreciated
Its a 1957 chevy 3200 with a stepside long box, and the smaller back window. The chrome he has for it says 32 apache??? Do you think he was making an apache fleetside out of it? or did they have apache stepsides in long box?

Any other clues to help me look for on what he might of had to help distinguish what he was doing, as the truck is apart in a million pieces

welcome to the shop rye, lotsa info here to help sort out the truck, what you do with it is up to you, I'd suggest gettin it together and drivin it

the name Apache started in 58 and was an advert term referring to "light trucks", 1/2T-1T, any style bed ... the 57 should have an emblem that looks quite different and has "3200", using just the "32" also started in 58 with the Apache designation and the fleetside box ... uncle mighta just been collecting parts

Welcome aboard, from another Canadian:) I'm new to the old truck hobby too, so I really have little to suggest. I know that the name Apache was from 58 to 61, so your 57 wouldn't be one. But yeah, keep us posted on your progress:)

Thanks for the welcome, and as for picture I havn't taken any yet. The doors, fenders, hood are all off and in the shed. The cab is bare and sitting in the box thats attached to the frame. I got about eight big boxes filled with chrome, glass, and wires lol. Uncle has everything torn apart, but I'm up to the challenge.

Thinking if I can find a fleetside long box i will leave it a long box, if not the frame's getting shortened and becoming a short box 3200 stepside.

Is there any rare models that shouldn't be modified? and are GM and Chevy parts interchangable for those years?

some parts interchange between Chev and GMC, but there are definite differences too that prevent interchanging some parts .... a fleetside bed from 58 or 9 would fit [no such animal for 57], just need to make your own mount holes in the frame, BUT a short anything is a 3100, the 3200 is the long frame, sell the 58 emblems and find the correct 57 ones

31 is a designation for short box 1/2 ton for fleetside or stepside. 32 is a long box 1/2 ton for fleetside or stepside.
