I have been looking and looking on this site because I swear I found an artical or something about this butI can not seem to locate it:

Can we get infromation about our truck from GM?

I've gotten them in the past guys but it seems just a while back that Peggy had a note in here somewhere, or maybe another bolter mentioned it.... but anyway, the thread was the GM does not GIVE those away anymore and possibly charged for them. I believe Peggy was going to "look into it" but her and John have been busy busy busy....... anyway, the phone call will be all it takes to find out one way or the other and when you find out, please, let us know the outcome.

In Canada they cost about $40. I am wondering in the "new company" if there will still be that service offered.

the resto-pak is/was from the GM historical division, and I think they've farmed that out - they've sold off some of their historical assets the past few years, cars and parts - nothing is sacred in the bean counting world

I wouldn't mind paying some for a better quality copy than what I got for free. What I got looked like a copy of a copy of a copy, etc.. If GM IS going to charge for it they need to do a better job IMHO.

I followed the Stovebolt link instructions http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/GMRestoPak.htm and called the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center @ 1-800-222-1020.

The friendly gal on the phone said they don't deal with this anymore and gave me a couple other numbers to call.

I will follow up on Monday and report back.

Right on John. Thats what I was thinking. Thanks for volunteering to follow up and then give us the REAL DEAL...... then the "tip" needs to be changed accordingly.

My copy of the engineering information was pretty poor too. I think they are digitized or scanned from the originals. My official letter about my truck was of normal office quality.

I tried to get info on my 'leaf' here from GM Canada. They have sold everything off to an independant publisher who charges a pretty fair price given the high quality of the manual and supplement that I received.

A fellow emailed me last month and told me that the US resto pack is now 50 dollars.

I have no idea if the quality is any better or not.

The free one I received was just black and white copies, which I thought was kind of pointless for the color chips section.

If it is the same packet, it is most definitely not worth 50 dollars.

You can get most information from the shop manuals and the owners manuals(which are in reprints and available from most parts vendors - as well as the old ones for sale online and at swap meets).

Another great source for information is from people who have the old Chevrolet dealer sales and ordering literature from the time period of your vehicle. You ask around on here and people will look stuff up for you. It may take awhile as they are not always online... but they are around.

As promised I followed up with the good people at GM Heritage about "Restoration Kits" this morning.

Sure enough they are now charging $50.00 for the data. Using the information that Woogeroo stated in the previous post as my guide I asked the gentleman at GM Heritage the following:

"I already have the shop manuals and owners manual for my vehicle. Will the data I receive from GM Heritage include additional data that would justify spending the $50.00?"

The gentleman stated "No, not in my opinion". I thanked him for his honest answer.

I did not order the information for my truck. Hey, "$50 bucks is $50 bucks".

We need to change the tip section about this. Who/How? It'll save being repeated zillions of times....if Peggy/John are listening.
