I was given a 1/2 ton 64 rear end with 3:73 gears and plan on putting it under the truck. I guess I would kind of end up with a heavy half. My intent is to build a driver but wish to get away from the old huck brakes and have a higher gear rearend. Has anyone tried this or does anyone forsee any problems? Thanks in advance for any input, OZ.

Are your drums still in good shape? Good Huck drums are getting hard to find!
Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice) \'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run. My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.

For that year, my understanding is that the axel is narrower for the 1/2 ton than for the 3/4 ton, though I have never verified this for myself. As you probably know, the wheels go from 8 lug to 6 lug.

I don't have anything meaningful to add regarding the rear-end swap, but I'm curious how straight-forward the front swap was. Was it as easy as removing the 3/4-ton axle and bolting in the 1/2-ton?
