on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 14 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 14 | Hi everyone, just need a little advice again. I have a 1955 GMC truck with a bad gmc 248 inline 6 engine in it. The truck has a 3 speed column shift transmission in it. Can I pull the gmc 248 inline 6 and install in its place a rebuilt 250 chevy inline 6 engine without having problems getting the new engine to link right up correctly to the existing transmission in my truck? The transmission in my truck is stock... I know ill have to change motor mounts, because the chevy 250 has mounts on either side, whereas my gmc engine is mounted from the front, but will i have no problems grafting the chevy 250 engine right onto my stock 3 speed transmission? Please reply only if your sure you know... Thanks a bunch for the help! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 | You will need to use a v8 or 6 cylinder bellhousing from about 1962-1967. The earlier bellhousings will be setup for a hydraulic clutch. This should be a fairly simple swap. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy GMCUSTOM, actually you could use a bellhousing from a 55.2 - 59 V8, or a 63 - 67 V8 or 6 cylinder, as bigbadswingdaddy said, the 1960 - 62 were hydraulic clutch equipped, and there throwout arm comes out the right hand side, hope that helps. | | |
