No this is not a cliche ;-)
Seriously, I have a 64 C10 and I am under the suspicion that the rearend on my truck is not original. Mostly because the track arm has a different mounting on all the catalogs that I look at for parts, also it has the two piece driveshaft and the mounting for the bearing looks "homemade" Here are some pictures.

I would sincerely appreciate any help in finding out what is going on so that I can replace the bushings on the track arm.

It looks like someone modified the carrier bracket to accomodate a different style carrier bearing. The tracking arm is a panhard bar and it looks right to me,

Scott,
Thanks for the info. The panhard bar in the catalog mounts to a pin/bolt that is in the rear axle as you can see in the pictures, mine has a bracket welded to it. I have seen a similar bracket sold to adapt a "modern" axle to our trucks.

Well not sure it's "new" that was just my assumption since it was different from stock but I guess it could be from an older one as well. Would it be possible to get a picture from you Mark?
