How long is the OD cable? I bought on years ago off of eBay and believe it was from an impala or whatever the car of the day was.

I think it is a little short but do not know.

Is there another cable that is available for this purpose?

Oh. This is for my 55 2nd TF. Thanks

TIA

If you are looking for one with the "Overdrive" inscription on the handle you may be in for a long hunt. If you are just looking for a T-handle, try a local truck parts supply house. That's where I got mine--it's a T-handle that you can also turn to lock in place.

Thank you for the reply.

Is a truck parts supply house for the big rigs or just the off roaders/custom truck stuff stores?

If you are looking for a T-Handle with overdrive inscription, Ford had overdrive on their T-handles and they should be long enough. If you just want a cable, a PTO cable is available at parts houses in rural areas and dealers parts houses that sell larger truck parts.

Really. I want a cable that will work. I don't care if it has the overdrive inscription.

I would like it to be long enough to attach to the bottom of the dash and reach the transmission, have the T-handle, and be heavy enough to do the job.

The cables I see at he FLAPS are thin and I am concerned if they will do the job. Maybe, a hood unlock cable would work. I didn't think about that. Anybody used a hood cable?

Thanks

Go to a driveline shop in Dallas area, probably several of them. They can usually make any type of cable from scratch.

Find a parts strore that handles Chelsea PTOs. A control cable for a PTO works perfectly. It will be long, so you can cut it to size. I've found that pretty much all of the cables normally available from the flaps are too flimsy and tend to bind up. Look to spend about $40 for a PTO cable, but they are well worth the cost to have trouble free operation.

No more Chelsea brand. It is now Parker, i.e., Parker Hydraulics. Driveline shops and mobile power distributors are usually the same outfits.

Was that a recent change? The cable I got for mine was in a Chelsea box.

I just measured mine with the overdrive inscription, from the end of the T handle to the end of the housing is 42" long. It worked fine on my 1966 El Camino.

Thank you for all the information.

The beauty of this is to receive information from all over. The bad thing is not having someone in Dallas say go here and get this. Or 'I have one - here you go.' I have no idea what a 'hydraulics, driveline shop, or mobile distributor' is. Or Chelsea vs Parker.

Sorry. I am simple in that way.

I will look for the 'heavy duty' PTO t-handle cable that is 42 inches long.

Thanks again to all for your help

Dennis, for a big rig parts store, try FleetPride, the concrete company that I work for gets the majority of the mixer truck parts from there. Here is where one is the Dallas area: right here.

Dennis,
I got mine from Concours Parts in Carson City, Nevada.
They are the Ford side of Golden State Pickup Parts.
Part # A9AZ-7A650-A, $50
http://www.concoursparts.com/

It's a universal trim-to-fit cable.

You can also get it from Dennis Carpenter.
same part #
http://www.dennis-carpenter.com/
They will be in town for the Pate swap meet.
You might be able to get them to bring you one and save shipping.

regards,
Leon

Thanks Leon. That is exactly the information that I needed.

I am not sure if I will make it to the Pate but can order it from Concours Parts.

Thanks Again.
