For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 22 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 22 | Finally tore in to the front brakes, sandblasted/painted the backing plates, got new shoes, wheel cylinders, and had the drums turned down. Unfortunately this is the first time I've taken a close look at the suspension and it looks like my kingpins have too much slop, my tie rod is all bent up, and the leaf springs almost arc the other way. Also the bearings are worn so I'll probably be replacing those with new roller bearings. So, more parts on order and around $500.00 later I should have just about a brand new front suspension by the time I'm done. Feels good to get back in the garage though! brake before brake after 1 brake after 2 drums kingpin | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Your doing a nice job. Just an observation - it looks like the hold down clips are sandblasted but not painted - you may want to paint those also so that they don't rust. Nice job! Samantha

They order them but You do not pay any shipping, Pete | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | A spring shop can also re-arch your old springs. | | |
