Finally tore in to the front brakes, sandblasted/painted the backing plates, got new shoes, wheel cylinders, and had the drums turned down. Unfortunately this is the first time I've taken a close look at the suspension and it looks like my kingpins have too much slop, my tie rod is all bent up, and the leaf springs almost arc the other way. Also the bearings are worn so I'll probably be replacing those with new roller bearings. So, more parts on order and around $500.00 later I should have just about a brand new front suspension by the time I'm done. Feels good to get back in the garage though!

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

That looks good! I agree - as Achipmunk said - "Do It Once....Do It Right." Just an observation - it looks like the hold down clips are sandblasted but not painted - you may want to paint those also so that they don't rust. Nice job!

Hi, keep in mind that if You find a spring shop where You live they can make new springs and its alot cheaper than ordering and paying shiping same with the king pins NAPA has them , tie rods too. They order them but You do not pay any shipping, Pete

A spring shop can also re-arch your old springs.
