Looking for information on 1949 chevy sedan delivery. Roof has a seam in the center from front to back. Is this supposed to be welded or did the factory use a seam sealer? Any iformation would be helpful.

there was no factory seam in any sedan delivery roof ... earlier there was a large wood-fabric area in the center, but once they got the ability to make one piece stampings that big, it was one piece, joined to the pillars at all 4 corners with welded and leaded joints, same as the panel bodied trucks .... 39 sd top - very large pic, see if you find evidence of a seam wink

I have a 51 suburban which has no seam, we took it down to bare metal. This sedan delivery has a seam directly in the center from front to back with the roof being all metal. A fried who is working on it is considering welding it.

I would call Chesser Auto Emporium in Lawrenceville, GA. Mike has had several sedan delivery's down to metal.

You people are confusing the sedan delivery with a panel/suburban truck.
The sedan delivery was build on a car frame, and yes there was a welded seam down the center of the roof. I don't beleive any manufacturer had the capability of stamping out a piece of metal that large. Don't forget there was no drip mold and so the panel had to go from beltline over the roof area and down the other side to the beltline. These vehicles were a low volume build so it was done the easiest way possible.
