I have been to a couple of car parts shops today to look for some POR15. One has no Idea what it is and the other caries the equivilent??Chassi Saver???

So what national part store carries the stuff?

ctzr1: The place where I bought my paint for my panel keeps a can or two on the shelf.
You can do a search on it and I'm sure it'll pop up.

Be aware I think the price just went up about $5 a quart....but what hasn't went up lately!

I've been to a couple of places and it was around. But they were't chain stores, just local. You can order it from their website (link below).


It is $135 a gallon where I saw it. On POR-15's web site it is listed as $143 , not sure about shipping. Here is the link: POR-15 And the worst part is you don't mix it like you would when you spray with a gun. A gallon is a gallon.
Also on their web site you can find the pre-cleaners they recommend to use with their products.

Another note, I haven't used it personally but the guy at the paint store (He is very knowledgeable) said if you open a gallon use gallon. If even one drop is on the rim of the can you will not be able to re-open it again.

A second other note: I was also told to wear long sleeves and gloves. You can not remove dried POR-15 from skin with anything. Almost like that spray foam. It will have to wear off for 3-4 days.

Again, this isn't from first hand experience but I trust my sources of info.

Hey guys, do a search on por15 and get ready to enjoy SEVERAL minutes of good reading!
ITs all been said before.....wear OLD clothes, rubber gloves, use saran wrap under the lid, wear some sort of mask if painting by brush (use disposable), and if spraying use the best respirator you can get. This stuff will coat the inside of your lungs like it coats a chassis!!
Don't use it where the sun will hit it as it is not UV resistant but can be top coated with the paint of your choice and be find.

Some suggestions are to drill a samll hole in the top of the can without taking the lid off, and seal it back up with tape to keep it from drying out. Any way you do it pour out only what you need so it don't start drying and getting stiff while you paint. Use in an open area.

I don't know how much you have to paint with POR-15, but it goes a long ways I got a quart & have done both inner fenders inside & out, radiator support, frame from the cab forward & both engine & trans cross members, and I still have 1/2 quart.

I agree with Alan, a gallon of POR-15 would coat a battleship!
Plus you would have the problems of storing it once opened.

I reckon I've used about 3 1/2 pints in all and painted my chassis,inside my cab (rear panel,roof,floor and firewall)
Plus numerous small parts.

It does go a long way!

ctzr1: JimCarter has it and can be ordered from them. I'm not sure of the price but the last time I ordered some I got it from them. If your a stovebolt contributor you get 10% discount and you only pay ACTUAL shipping cost. Give them a call and check out their prices....just don't buy it by the PINT. The pints are about as expensive as the quarts!!!

If your not a stovebolt contributor now would be a good time to become one. It does pay back!! There is a post in the Greasy Spoon about donations now. Most bolters make one along the way to help keep the sites computers up and running and to keep the lights on!

I know you guys are probably tired of me beating this drum but Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator beat POR15 in independent testing, is lacquer based, cleans up easily, doesn't fuse to your skin, is not UV sensitive, can be thinned for spraying and left over product can be stored for future use.

Use what you want but why anyone would use POR15 in light of all the facts remains a mystery to me.

You can order it online, basically the same as POR 15

Saw a water based rust encapsulator in Custom Classic Trucks. Don't remember the name though. It looked like a complicated process. You still had to get most of the rust off, use an etching primer, sand on it, then spray the stuff on!

A buddy at work had his boait trailer blasted and then painted it with a 2 part epoxy paint. It is rock hard and it looks like powder coat. It's awesome!

How about calling POR15 for the local distributor, worked for me every time so far.

I find that warm parts coat very well with por15 and I usually clean the top of the can then cover it with a platic wrapwith a rubber band around rim.

i can get a few weeks before it gets enough air to form a skin on top of the paint.

also,wear gloves ,especially if you are going go to work after using.

I painted my frame a few years ago with POR15 and am happy with the results,as it sat outside for 2 years while I struggled with the cab.
