Here's the scoop on me and my truck.
I bought this truck in the spring of 2008 from a guy just north of me. He is retired and works on these ole trucks and classic cars in his spare time. He has a lot of beautiful automobiles.
This guy brought this truck in from out west previously. It was titled in South Dakota.
The paint is rusted off but there are no holes or rot. The frame is solid and it runs really well. The odometer shows 44,000 miles and if I had to guess they are original.
I paid the man what he wanted 'cause he would not budge on the price. He trailered it down to my place, about 40 miles. I would have driven it but it had a couple of bad tires and I did not want to risk a blow out on the way home. [ View from the rear ]
I had some work yet to do on my new shop to get it ready for winter work (heater, insulation, dry wall) so I did not start wrenching on the Bolt until after Thanksgiving. I pulled the bed and the box and went to work on the rear axle and chassis. It cleaned up so nice, right down to original paint with minimal rust. No sandblaster needed here. A pressure washer would do just as well.
It is going to be or already is a pleasure to work on. I plan to restore it with a few modifications. It has the original 228 with a 4 speed and a 6 volt system. I'll re-gear the rear end with a 3.55 ring and pinion and a Saginaw tranny. I'll add new shocks and front wheel power disc brakes. I want to do an upgrade to a 12 volt alt. I'll go through the engine and add some headers, dual exhaust and a 4 barrel. Last will be new chrome bumpers, new glass with a nice set of wheels and a beautiful paint job.
It won't be anything fancy. He won't be a show truck but he'll look it. I'll drive him everyday until they start salting the roads around here in the winter. Then he'll go back in the shop with his lil' redhead sister ('70 Corvette). But that is going to be a few years.
In the meantime, I'll be doing a lot of research on Stovebolt.com and wrenching.
