I see a lot of guys like the s-10 4x4 rear ends.
I have a 1951 chevy with a 53 235. what year s-10 should i be looking for? What are the gear ratios? what about hub bolt pattern? will my stock steel rims fit. I really want to keep my stock rims. How do i tell if it is posi or not?Any info would help. Or should i just look for 55-6-7 rear end as originally planned. thanks.

mine has a 85 blazer and s-10 five speed.this keeps the 6-lug pattern, I believe that your options narrows some if you want to keep the six lug,, your gear options are also various, I have a 2.73 in mine and it works ok, if you do any hauling , your might you want a 3 something, more folks will probably chime in, good luck with your choice...welcome to the bolt.........Fred

With the S10 trucks, the 2wd rears are 4 inches narrower than the 4wd / AWD rears. Many were 3.42 & 3.08, but some 4cyl trucks had 3.73s.
Get the wider.

If you have access to a 55-6-7 rear you can keep your 6 lug and will most likely have a 3.90 ratio. This will work well with a S10 T-5 trans because the od will give about a 3.08 final ratio and through the gears you'll have plenty of pulling power for hills.
