My friend has a truck in his barn that has been there since the mid '70's. I am almost certain it is a '53 3800, flatbed, dually grain truck. It has no rust on it and appears to be very sound. We have not looked into what it will take to get it running. We have no idea how much I should pay for the truck. It has the original green paint on it.
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Curtis Orton

It almost looks identical to yours, even the same green color. | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 323 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: May 2005 Posts: 323 | Welcome to the 'bolt huthip I'm no expert but if it has everything on it and it truly did run when they parked it, I might even go a little higher, possibly $800. Mind you, I'm a gal & have incurable stovebolt disease so I am not always as rational as I could be regarding these trucks Got ? I'm a guy and I suffer from the disease too!(I'm never rational!) As '49 said, you could try posting this in the Big Bolts section of the forum. It'll reach the guys "in the know" and give you a clearer idea on what to pay. will help too. Good luck Jock

IF its possible to try and get it running I think that would be the wise thing to do. Then a fair price would be negotiable. If you buy it "as is, where is" then they get cheaper as menitoned above. | | | | Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 25 Apprentice | Apprentice Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 25 | I just paid $900 for my 53 4400. Its about the same outside as Hayhauler's. But the seat is mint. It runs an drives great just have to work on lights to get it on the road. | | | | Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 66 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 66 | I just bought a 70' GMC for $900. it didn't have a bed and some pretty bad rust in the fender corners and a 350 and 350 auto tranny. I would say that a bigger truck that has no rust, or is complete, $900-$1000 sounds fair, escpecially if you dont get the engine running.
