Depending on how fussy you are for accuracy you might want to consider "J" or "U" nuts like PICTURED HERE. You can get these at ACE hardware, I believe.

I can't remember but I think those might have originally been "cage nuts" like pictured HERE. but I don't recall seeing then at the hardware store.

Anyway, there are a couple options to consider.

woody, can't get those links to open?

And I'm not sure what panel he is talking about? On my 52panel the inspection plates are screwed on ....and its screws that hold the cardboard panel on....isn't it?

I"m confused headscratch

Alvin,

Well, isn't that messed up?! They were there this morning! Maybe the economy is worse than I thought!

Try googling J nuts or U nuts... although now I'm beginning to think I'm nuts.

As far as what's supposed to be holding them on I can't help you... THIS is what was holding mine on

I think Woody is correct. Mine had nuts welded in the door panel similar to cage nuts. I think the modern u-nuts would suffice.
I had clutch head screws holding the lower panel, and phillips head screws in the upper (cardboard) panel. (I think they were added later in the truck's life.)
Here's a photo of the door before I put the covers on, but you can't see much even zooming the photo to 300%. I really just wanted to show off the gray paint. smile

I just looked at my new doors and they are a kind of cage nut that find in several places on these trucks like on the inner fenders. More like a flanged nut that's permanently mounted, but not welded.

About the closest thing you'll find handy today are like the ones seen HERE... if they're still in business by the time I post this.

Woody, I know you probably only posted the link to ABCOR to illustrate the nuts but have you tried buying anything from Them? It appears that they are an OEM supplier not a retail outlet, probably couldn't buy less than 10000 at a time.
McMaster is a retailer and would handles some of those style nuts but not a full line of them.
