I have flywheel but not sure what it fits. I've had several around the shop and now down to just this one.....

It has GM42 on it and also what I believe to be the part# or casting # is 83875 777 Can anyone tell me what year it is?? I think its an early 50's??

83875 does not show up in the 1929-1951 Master Parts Catalog I have.Sorry.

I'm thinking it came out of a 52 but not sure.....Maybe thats why it doesn't show in the 29-51?

What are its characteristics and key dimensions (# of ring gear teeth, pressure plate bolt pattern, diameter, etc.)? Do you have a photo?

OOOOOOOK, I went back and washed/rubbed and sanded the #'s and I made a mistake on the #'s above. No wonder no one can tell me what it is.
The CORRECT # is 839764-777 and it has 139 teeth.

Dang, I don't know where that first # came from..maybe a telephone # Sorry gang.

Could the number be 839754?

hoyt: I just went back out in the shop and double double checked and it is plainly 839764 then a dash and 777.

Its also 14 inches across and the face where the clutch rubs looks like it uses a 10 3/4" clutch.

Hy Achipmunk, how many bolts hold the clutch to the flywheel?

Your flywheel is PRE 1955. 1955 and later ONLY used 153t or 168t
on full sized engines. Are you sure the flywheel is Chevy?

I can't help you Chipmunk. That number isn't in the 1946-72 truck parts catalog.

TC's: now that does confuse me!

3B: from the marks on the flywheel, left by the pressure plate I count 9 holes.

This really has me confused. Hmmm. Hope this info helps. But I know the numbers I gave, the corrected ones, are correct and I recounted the teeth. I did think the holes 3B ask about were sort of strange but it sure looks like the pressure plate had 9 holes holding it on.

Hy Achipmunk and guys, I think your flywheel might be p/n 3705387, 42 - 53 heavy duty clutch, 9 holes, supposed to be stamped "2UC". In hoyt's posting of 01/03/09 there is a link to the parts manual, the descriptions include casting numbers, the casting number you quoted is not listed there, so this is a total surmise on my part, using the facts provided, hope that helps.

I'm gonna bead blast it tomorrow and see what is behind all the crude. I know the #'s I listed are what is on it but they may be some other clue hidden??

Hey guys, I found this thread online searching the very same casting number Jerry was asking about. An Inliner buddy of mine gave me a flywheel tonight for my 216 and the casting number is 839764 - 777 just like Jerry's! Looks like the conversation died and no one ever figured out what the flywheel came out of or fits. Anybody have new resources that can figure it out now? It's been since January 2009 since this topic was last discussed.
