I ran it out of the sides in front of the rear wheels. I like the looks and it sounds pretty good standing on the outside but those Flowmasters are a tad too loud on the inside of the cab. Where are you guys running yours? The sides or the rear?

I think doing long miles with the pipes drumming out the side you may need a loud stereo. Have taken my truck on several runs recently covering 1100kms or 650 miles in 4 days out the back is the way to go personnel choice | | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 11 | When I had the first 292 in my 67 I had dual tuned headers on it with glasspacks, with both pipes dumpin in front of the drivers rear tire. It's a bit tight on account of the Air suspension but as the others say side exits would be tiring on a long drive. (As much as I like the V8 'rumble!) Plus I prefer the look at the rear.
I might have to adjust the silencers once I get the drive shaft in place to allow for suspension movement and the pipes just clear on full compression at the axle. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. This will quiet down the sound in the cab. Exiting any where before the rear wheels turns the cab and box into a sounding board. Think of it as having your head inside the drum.

The only time it really gets annoying is when I'm screamin down the interstate at 65-75mph

How about some pics of your exhaust tips. I'm thinking about the Camaro style.

On my 65 They exit in front of the back wheels with turbo mufflers. I like both setups,so to me its just a matter of personal preference. However I would say, that if your gonna exit them in front of your rear, axle,to use quieter mufflers. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 | How about some pics of your exhaust tips. Then 5" and a Magnaflow Stainless steel muffler and some more 5" with mandrel bends to get over the axle. Grigg

I love the sound of it around town (which is 90% of my driving) but This past weekend I took it Old Town Saturday Night Cruise, about 90 miles one way. That's about 2 hours of 3K rpms...yeah that can get to ya. My solution is an OD transmission so I can go 70 at or under 2500 rpms.
IF the exhaust must exit the rear on a truck.... I like mostly hidden by the rear bumper, exiting near the rear corners and the exhaust pipe tips angles down at about a 45 degree angle and just bearly peeking below the bumper. I'm trying to think of what cars had a setup like what I'm trying to explain. In short, I (this is personal taste) don't care for seeing 2 pipes dumping straight out the back on a truck.
My hope is you end up with exactly what you like to see and tone you enjoy. Hardly hear any exhaust noise except when I get on the gas hard in 1st or 2nd gear, nothing at all inside the cab at freeway speed. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,067 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,067 | I've got a V8 and I'm running them out just in front of each rear tire. The downpipes feed directly into an x-pipe crossover just under the transmission crossmember, and then straight into a pair of Thrush superturbo mufflers and then 45 degrees to angle in front of the rear tires and out with a nice pair of Hearthrob chrome tips. 2.5 inch mandrel bent aluminized pipes all the way back too. My headers are '86 Corvette shorty headers.
