I wondered if anyone had used an S10 rear differetial as a swap and if there were any problems. The width fits well on a swap on the 38 panel.
Hey it's finally sunny in Vancouver.

I have only heard good things about s-10 rearends, I am looking for one now , I went to pick & pull last week to check them out , heres what I got , there 5 ft. wide , and they all seem to have aproxamitly 3.70 gears . All the ones I looked at where 10 bolt, I heard around 1992 or so they went to 9 bolts , there suposed to have larger ring & pinions. Thats I know for now , I will be putting one in my 41 trk. , soon.

Most S10's with the 4 cylinder have 3.42-3.70 gears.The 2.8's with a 5 speed have 3.42 gears.The later 4.3 models have a slightly larger ring gear, with the most common ratio being 2.73-3.08.The standard ratio depends on if the truck is 2 or 4 wheel or a stick.The 4 wheel drive axle is supposed to be a few inches wider than the 2wd.The rear brakes are small, shouldn't be a problem on a truck that carries no load.The S10 rear will take some abuse but aggressive driving toast a stock rear.One problem occurs on the rear axles, which ride directly on the bearings, like other Chevys.The axles are sometimes worn out , as S10's are entry level stuff that often abused and not serviced properly.

The Brazilian built S10 uses a Dana 44 rear end. Cool choice. Although I've heard that the Dana axle is a li'l challenging to rebuilt, I see it as a top unit. And the latter units have a 5X4 3/4 bolt pattern, opposing the earlier ones, with six lugs.(S10 here are new stuff, all the ones produced here just loks likes an Isuzu Hombre, but extended cabs and 4 doors are available).

That's good to hear and thanks for the input. I found one from an 88 4x4 with Limited slip posi. It's a 10 bolt and the width is 59". I paid $395 in Canadian dollars.

I've always heard good things too, so I went and got one. Now that Im not using it, it sits in the yard waiting for ?????
