All parts stores have universal ones that have a long wire on one end. It can be cut to size & bend a hook in it. It,s also possible they shaft at the end of the pedal is sticking & needs greasing.

I think the original one was "sort of a long one" with a straight piece of wire also. In other words trhe spring was a "two part" spring. The "rod" and return spring are shown at the link above.
The "short piece" with a hole for the "rod" (that Alvin refers to) is in that picture. The grease fitting is also shown.
