I unscrewed it and found another screw piece and then a spring. It was packed with grease. (Hope this discribes it well enough)
I figured this was for lubricating the distributor shaft.

You pack it once or twice a year,and when you do a tune up or maybe once a month if you drive it a lot,give it a twist,half a turn or so. Some had an oil cup instead,then,for no apparent reason,they decided the distributor didn't need to be lubed. That's why you can get replacement distributors from all the parts stores now-they wear out now. | | |
