I cooked the 216 last winter hauling wood  and FINALLY have the $$s to have an engine rebuilt. In october will take delivery on a spankin' refurbished 235. Even going 12 volt...oo la la. Pls. chime in with gotcha's and things to tell the builder. I'm getting a stock rebuild and this is (I HOPE) a drop in to replace the 216. If the builder supplies intake / exhaust will my header pipe match the 235? Hate to have to make new pipes. He will send it with" water pump/carb/hei/alternator/fuel pump. What else should I ask for? It will have Tom Langdon's solid lifter cam OMG I am dyyyying to get back into "Buck" again....the bicycle is getting old. hehe.

I've been re-re-re-re reading the tech tips so I'm able to figure out what all I need to go 12 volt etc. to. I just talked to the engine builder and he's going to scrounge around for the 216 engine mount plate so I don't have to pull the 216 apart. Hey! anyone in MD who's wants a froze 216 the price is right I'm going to re-paint the engine compartment while the engine is out and FINALLY put a heater in....man it was COLD before.

Welcome back TT. Ask for a double grove harmonic balancer and drill the front of the crank for a bolt to hold the balancer on. Hardened inserts for unleaded fuel. Offy 2x1 intake & Split the orig cast iron exhaust for dual exhaust.

You are one of the only guys from out east that can understand a midwest sense of humor! I think you have to spend a few winters here like you did to catch on. When you get Buck going again, you can always throw the bike in the truck as back up. The bike might be faster and more reliable. LOL

The grill can stay in place. I unbolted at the tranny and the clutch came out with the engine. Pretty easy. Ralph

Isn't there some funkiness about the water pump sticking out too far... on later model 235's in AD trucks - my dad has a '53 AD chevy with '57 235 - he hadda use the 216(I think) shorter shaft water pump... whihc I think also requires machining love to make it work... or a bracket... I dunnoo he bought it all ready to go.

Can anyone tell me if the 1bbl carb from my 216 is the right thing for the 235? Or, is there a better (single) carb to use? I'm just not up for dual carbs and all that goes with the care and feeding...yeah I know I'm no fun The builder is going to rebuild a 12 volt generator...I like the look. Cosmos - ? Not sure what you mean. Tom L. advised me to fergit about the oil filter and just change the oil. Any problem with that?

If you can find an old 235 carb, you can swap out the throttle bodies. My old 216 carb was in great shape, so I used the carb body off the 235 builder I bought. (the actual carb was trashed) I also used the main jet out of the trashed carb. The throttle body is the part under the bowl that bolts to the intake. The 216 & 235 bolt patterns are slightly different. Hope this helps ya.

We used an overhead "come-along" and pulled the engine and tranny out together. Not too tough, but you'll need some extra hands.
