Ok, I know this might sound stupid and I feel I know what the answers are going to be, but I have to ask: I found a 1935 chev 1 ton stake truck. It is all original and all together. It still runs with a little over heating problem, but hey it runs. The guy runs it in parades and thats it. Everything is there except the headlights and all the glass. He said the panels and truck in general is in very nice shape other than a little rust at the bottom of the cab along the back. He wants $3000 o.b.o I`ve been looking for one for along time and this is the second one I`ve come across here in Canada. The first one would be considered as parts cause it was rough. With that said and only coming across two, I`m not passing this one up. What do you guys think? Thanks for any info given,Darcy

I think you should go for it. If it is what you want and it actually is in good shape(which you think it is) then go for it. I'm no good on the pricing but someone will be along shortly to tell you what they know.

agree with jordan,as long as your happy go for it.its not like theyre still makin them. i know i've over paid for things in the past.but i cant buy them now for what i gave then.so in a twisted kinda way it evens out...........dave

It has a few things going for it:

PROS:

It runs and is almost complete.

It has a title?

It is local, no duty fees and border hassles

It's what you want

The price is negotiable

NEGS:

Rusted in a couple of areas

missing a few parts

Some mechanical issues

What else is wrong?


Most of the 1 1/2 tons that are available are in the USA. They run between $1200 - 2500 for projects/parts trucks to $2500 - 6000 for running originals. The market is down right now and the larger trucks have a smaller market. If this is what you want, buy it, if you are willing to gamble wait or offer less. Pictures would be nice!

The market varies depending on where you're at. Around here a complete, running truck like you're describing is a good buy @ $3000. Jump on it or you'll always wish you had.

I paid $3,000 for my 51 3600 running (barely).

Ditto my '51. Jump on it. Think how you'll feel for the next 30 years if you don't!

Is that U.S. dollars or Canadian?? Sounds like a good deal to me either way.

I think the pre-War trucks are in a different category than the AD and later trucks (The '41-'47 1st trucks seem to be in their own category, too).

Original/unmolested pre-War trucks of any size seem to be getting rarer all the time. And practically non-existant here on the Atlantic seaboard. So IF you happen across one for sale, it's best not to hesitate as the next guy will grab it.

Prices DO vary by region, with the most expensive trucks being in my area (which just figures ...) and the lowest price ones being in the plains states & provinces.

With that being said, my personal opinion is that if I found a '35 Big Bolt (assuming I was allowed to look for one ) that ran and was presentable enough for parades for $3 grand, the next sound you'd hear was my arm breaking the sound barrier to reach for my pen and check book. You can find headlights -- in fact, not too long ago, I saw a set of NOS lights for a '35 in an attic in VA (a little pricey, but just shows they do exist).

Buy it, don't look back. Like everyone says, you won't feel bad. I, too, bought a truck and paid more than it was actually worth, but it's a fabulous truck with a good history and we enjoy the heck out of it.

What's 3 grand for a relatively easy rebuilder.
I paid that much for my truck that doesn't run,
has no glass/interior and has a good amount of rust to be repaired to boot!

Look at it this way........it's NOT gonna depreciate in value!

Mine's not as old as that, but I probably overpaid for it some. Like they say, you can't buy them new anymore, and if it's what you want, BUY IT. Mine needs quite a bit of work, but to have something I'm going to hang on to for quite a few years (hopefully forever lol) it was well worth it. And again, it's only going to go UP in value.
