For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 615 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 615 | They sell standard, .010 and .020 oversize pins. I have a micrometer. What should the nominal diameter of the pin be?
Thanks,

With all your front end work going on, I know you realize this already..you will only want to replace the old pin with a new pin of the same diameter if it fit the axle eye properly. If the old pin mic's standard but fit the eye poorly, a oversize is in order.
I assume you are merely trying to determine which size you have now.

I pushed the pins out and cleaned up the eye in the axle and the pins fit pretty darn snug in there. Just a touch of play, but almost non exsistant. I figured after 60+ years it would be worn out.

Just came in from the garage..Mine mic .921..Good number 3B
The axle that Sid dropped came from Cal..from an ad I ran in the "Parts wanted" forum here. He sent the 3/4 ton axle to Sid and the spndles to me..He(brian)was nice enough to include the original kingpins etc. I was amazed that they sill had a mirror finish. I've seen articles where they're removed and completely rusted..These are probably re-useable but for $45 what the hey... I tried them in the axle and they're a little loose for the first 1/4 " and then snug up to a point where you have to tap them back out. So I think I'm good to go..
On the other hand: On the axle that's currently in the truck.. The drivers side hasn't taken grease in 30 years..man that statement makes me feel old..
Thanks gents..I learned sompin today..
Keith
