I found this out when someone offered me a dipstick from a 216 to replace my broken(I have since fixed it) one from the 235 and they are different lengths. | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 388 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 388 | Pages 186-187 of the 1929-1957 Chevrolet Master Parts Catalog gives the lengths of most (all?) of the dipsticks and tubes for the 216-235-261 engines, at least through 1957. The early 216s had very short dipsticks. Hoyt | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 2,554 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 2,554 | You got me curious,so i went out to the garage. I was told by at least two different people that they all had different lengths. | | | | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 19 Apprentice | Apprentice Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 19 | Where would one find a replacement dipstick for a 235? Someone took the liberty of stealing the one from my '58 before I bought it... | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 | On my 248 GMC the dipstick was broken so I took one off an old junker 350 and clipped about 7" off the end to stock length. Fit fine.
