Can anyone tell me if the dipsticks for the 216 and 235 engines are interchangeable?

No. They are different lengths. I found this out when someone offered me a dipstick from a 216 to replace my broken(I have since fixed it) one from the 235 and they are different lengths.

Pages 186-187 of the 1929-1957 Chevrolet Master Parts Catalog gives the lengths of most (all?) of the dipsticks and tubes for the 216-235-261 engines, at least through 1957. The early 216s had very short dipsticks.

You got me curious,so i went out to the garage. My 1951 216 dipstick is the same length as my 1954 261 dipstick.

Well, that is a shocker. I was told by at least two different people that they all had different lengths.

Where would one find a replacement dipstick for a 235? Someone took the liberty of stealing the one from my '58 before I bought it...

On my 248 GMC the dipstick was broken so I took one off an old junker 350 and clipped about 7" off the end to stock length. Fit fine.
