Ok all you kind folks with tons of knowledge, how do you tell a 30's something GM steel spoke/wire wheel from a Ford? Are they maked somewhere?

C'mon guys and gals, there has got to be some way of telling these apart.

I can't help, but I bleed for ya. A few weeks agp I asked a question on the dementions of the front frnder braces. I tried two forums and rephrased my question 3 times. I never did get an answer. I kinda thought after 60 plus years someone might of had a fender bender and bent the front fender support. I feel kinda special that after 60 plus years I am the only one who had this problem. As an aside, clean the wheel thouroughly. Look carefully at the wheel. Henry Ford was paranoid about marking every part Ford. Gm did the same in the early years, but not as fanaticaly as Ford.

I am going to stick my neck out here.

Fords and 5 lugs on 5" dia.

Chevys are 6 lug on 5 1/2 dia.

1929 specs.

I think Lonnie's right.

The ford wheels just look like ford wheels... So far that's how I tell, it can be done from quite a distance too.
Good to know you can count lugs and figure it out that way too.

Well, I came back to this post to add my two cent but I see some others have stepped up to the plate better than I ever could. I was only going to suggest looking at some pics of early vehicles and most FERD products have that little circle on them somewhere. Nevertheless Lonnie has taught us all something.

In going through the wheels it appears based on Lonnie's tip, I have 2 complete sets of Fued wheels and 2 CHEVY wheels. Blah!

Just as a side note, does anyone know when Chevy started using 6 on 5 1/2 lug pattern? The referrence I posted is a 1992 spec. book, so at least to that time. Was this the pattern Chevy started with or was there another wheel attachment?
