Has anybody successfully fished out a float without removing the tank or will I have to drain, remove, and flip it upside down? (This is on an AD truck) Thanks for any suggestions.

I haven't done this task. Wouldn't it be quite a bit easier to leave the tank intact, remove the sending unit and grab the float from that 'big old hole'. To repair the whole apparatus, the sending unit will have to be removed anyway, right!

When you get the loop around the float - pull the string tight. This is the same type of thing animal control officers use to catch critters from a distance. Basically a noose on a pole. A Ford 1/2 distributer wrench or a flex handle ratcheting box end makes removing the straps easy. It probably wouldn't hurt to clean the tank out any way or maybe replace it. To me a $120 repop saves a lot of headaches. | | |
