Hello everyone. My name is Scott. I'm in Central PA. I love any old car or truck. I was brought up some what around cars. My wonderful grandfather tinkered around with old cars and hit-n-miss engines. I truly look up to him! Anyhow I just found out over X-mas '07 that my inlaws had an old '29 Chevy Firetruck sitting in a quarry. Well thats all it took for my to BUG them to tell me where its at. They took me to see it 3 weeks later (they got tired of my bugging them). I told them I wanted it and they agreed BUT it had to stay a TRUCK!! My wife and I have always wanted a "together" truck. She has her old car and I have my old car. I sat down and planned some designs out and she said NO to pretty much all of them. See the Firetruck has lost its bed years ago and the money to restore it to a firetruck just isn't going to happen (so please don't ask)! So I took my wife to the Jalopy Showdown this year and told her to pick out a couple of trucks she likes. Now I know what she likes and what I like and now the design is set in mind. But not stuck on it. We are open to any ideas (as long as it fits the budget). I what to keep those cool stock wheels. Alot of it is going to remain stock. I do want to put better brakes and drive train in it (just cruising around) nothing fast by all means! It is an open cab and sits as high if not higher then my Suburban!

Here are some pics:

You got to start some where and with something. I can see the finished truck in those pics. If you look hard enough you'll see it in there. There is 2 trucks (not complete) in that pile. I think I'm going to have to shorten the frame. I really want to use this frame and these wheels.

I have to be honest here. I have spent most of my time on VW (cheap & easy) to lean alot of my fabricating. This is my first domestic build. There are going to be a TON of questions.

Like:
What wheel bolt pattern is that and what updated axles with juice can I bolt them to?
I want to use this frame (shorten) if not doable what frame (old) can I use?
Its a '29 so what years are the same (model, parts that fit..etc.)?

You don't have to answer these now I plan to reseach as much as I can. I'm waiting on the title to figure out the VIN , model and all that stuff so I have a true starting point. I think this is going to be a BLAST to build. Its not going to be anything fancy. All I can truly say is that I'm SAVING a piece of history from the scrap death.

Welcome to the bolt. Just remember, its one piece at a time!! I see quite a project but I see a lot of enjoyment and pleasure. It looks like you got a dream and a plan which are necessary to do anything. We will be watching AND helping when we can. Keep us posted. We all like pics.

It's a good feeling to save them from the scrap death, and make them useful again. I've saved a few of them over the years. Some of them are in my webshots albums.

It looks like you have a lot to work with. From what I can see, the sheet metal looks really straight. thumbs_up

Hi Scott.
Welcome to the group.
I think you'll find this a great place to get answers for most of your questions. Another great resource I found when I began restoring my 28 sedan was the VCCA. vccachat.org/ Most of the discussions over there center around stock restorations, but I'm sure you could find help in translating body codes, job numbers, the type of wheels you have and the like. If I can be of any help let me know.
