I added a '54 2-ton to my fleet last year and pickup up a 55.1 2-ton to use for parts earlier this summer. I've been taking the parts truck down to the frame to do a general clean-up, new brake-lines etc. One of the front spring hangers had shackle pin stuck in it that wouldn't move. I also couldn't pull or drive the bushing out with the usual puller/hammer/heat or any combination of them.

It was about then that I remembered I had this ancient and huge puller setup I'd bought at a garage sale 20+ years ago.

That's an 18-inch Crescent wrench on the ground in one of the pictures and it took all of it before the pin started to move.

You might be able to find a rental outfit that has a puller setup similar to the one I used. It sure worked when nothing else would.

I picked up a Snap-on Kingpin remover at a garage sale a few years back for $20. I just recently go to use it and with a 6' piece of 1" pipe and a 3/4" drive socket I barely broke a sweat!

It looks very similar to your tool and has a bunch of different sized pins for pushing, and interchangeable bushings for everything from light duty to heavy duty applicatons.

Glad you got it out! With a little time and some ingenuity you could probably make something similar that would do the job.

yep i have a set up like that works good,some time's use a otc ball joint press ,you can put the screw's to it with a impact !

There are three different ends depending on the size of the kingpins. Two rounded nuts hold the end piece on. The general purpose one is attached as shown. When doing kinpin removal on a car with smaller pins, there is a bushing that sits inside the end piece. The pins are all different shapes, sizes and lengths. They fit inside the threaded rod which presses the kingpin out as you torque her down.

Thanks Jeff, I copied those pics to my tools folder. I tied to copy the Webshots pics that Olblue posted but it says that “This photo may only be saved by friends” and how one becomes a friend in webshots I have no idea, they have destroyed the site since it was taken over last year. I recommend photobucket. It's free and easy to use. You can also do slide shows and make clickable images that use very little bandwidth like the following.
