yup, always a debate about how much running air can affect the mileage.. probably more so on our older stuff........but I an't doing without one in my rod........lol

I dont think it affects it that much, the only thing that bothers me in mine is the compressor is a tad loud..

If anyone cares what the people on Mythbusters says, they say that over 60mph use a/c, but under that to use the windows.

Very nice Paul!! thumbs_up thumbs_up thumbs_up I am looking forward to seeing it (and finally meeting you) in KC this September.
I just picked up a T-5 for my '41 half ton last night, so I will be hunting for ideas.

Great job

I think you best leave that sucker in the garage, pardner, or in an enclosed trailer, and getcher self an ugly truck to drive. I cannot imagine how it would feel to have that scratched, and any cellphone-using fast-mover is a potential target for murder, now.

Aw cmon...when you buy a new vehicle, you don't park it, do you? This ain't no trailer queen. It's a driver. Matter of fact, I drove it to work today so the guys here could oogle over it.

Mind you, I won't be parking it at WalMart any time soon, or trying to stuff it in a half-sized space at a local shopping center, but the truck will be driven - regularly.

I'll wash it and wax it regularly, which is something I seldom do with my "regular" vehicles, and I ain't takin' it to no "full service" car wash where they can scratch the paint with their rotating brushes.

It runs so good it begs to be driven.

Is that not why we do this Paul? Why build a car/truck that reaches such a level of perfection that you're afraid to use it?
I'm dang sure once mine is on the road I'll drive it every chance I get! Sure I'll probably lavish it with more attention than my daily driver ever gets, but we make allowances i.e. park it well away from the "unwashed masses"! grin
You can't wrap them up in cotton wool! thumbs_up
Enjoy DRIVING your very cool truck! thumbs_up thumbs_up

Exactly. When my wife complains about what it cost, I just smile and say, "And what did we pay for your minivan????" My truck will probably increase in value over time. The minivan isn't worth 1/3rd what we paid for it.

The makers of bed parts( Mar-K ) and a supporter of the 'bolt here in the Making a Stovebolt Bed forum had a promotion to add one of our trucks(which utilized some of their bed parts) to their ad here on the site... and baldeagle's truck was picked!

mar-k promotion

gallery page of the same truck

baldeagle is the man behind the curtain who keeps the 'bolt running for all of us on the computer hardware/server/software side... and he has built up this amazing truck too!

congratulations to him!

I wish. I saw a beautiful 38 that I would have loved to have had, but I live in the city - no place to store them and work on them. I'll have to be content with my one and only.

Dan, you've only got another 4 years to go. smile You're welcome. It's truly my pleasure.

Joker, didn't you hear my truck running when we went to that parking lot show in North Dallas? I could've sworn you did. You brought your cruiser that day, and my truck was painted but didn't have a bed yet.

Truck looks fantastic Paul...great job.

Question for you and anyone else that has done a similar restoration: If you enter it in any car shows, what classification would it be in? I wouldn't mind doing a similar restoration but if I was able to and could enter it in shows I would be afraid of having to compete against other modified vehicles with much more money put into them.

That's a long ways off but I'm just curious.

shows have different rules.....most would not enter
if they worried about cost of other vehicles...

It depends on the show. In some shows you'll be up against the $100,000 trailer queens with no chance of getting a trophy. In smaller shows you might take grand prize. (I did once.) At the Midwest All Truck Nationals, they have enough classes that you can win a trophy with a truck like mine. I took second in my class, and the winner was a Stovebolter with an absolutely gorgeous (15 passenger?) school bus redone into a camper.

Some shows you have to be in with the clubs or judges to even have a chance. They're rigged. Some shows are done pretty well and you have a good chance of winning something.

I seldom go to shows any more unless it's raising money for a cause I care about. For example, I've gone to the Cancer Survivors Show to raise money, but that was run by a friend. I also go to shows that raise my curiosity, usually in out of the way places that are a nice drive from here. The big, professionally run shows are just about worthless for guys like us.

Thanks, Tim. I spent a lot of time picking out parts and pieces for the motor and got exactly the look that I wanted. I also spent extra money getting them powdercoated so they'd be easy to maintain and clean.

Paul, forgive me if this has already been asked but what color is that? I can't tell if you have some metal flake in it.

You are right about the shows and the event. I took mine to Napa California since it was so close to my house and it was pretty much the first time I drove it. It cost ME to enter the truck and park it on the street for the public to walk around for FREE while drinking wine and trying to keep track of the kids they had. A few climbed on my step side to look in the bed, a few stuck their heads inside to look around and one lady had a 35mm camera around her neck with a strap and pressed it up against the pass side door so she could get a look inside. I paid to restore it, I paid to register it in their show, and the public got to walk around for free and stumble around. There were no notices anywhere about respect, bikes and baby strollers zig zaged around one car and up the other. No thanks but as said if it is a cause I want to help or donate to I'll take it, but I'll drive my car to a public "free" show and leave the bolt in the garage.
