Im sure between you and your buds it will get taken care of and you'll be driving that gem in no time  Leonard, I had the same problems with my rear disc brakes as your having with your fronts I finally ended up getting them done with a power bleeder it worked out great. Also my problem was a bad booster I was thinking it was the prop valve but after I did a little more researching (on the bolt) I FINALLY fixed them...at last !  Good luck guy's !! KEEP US POSTED !!

It was discovered the other day that the frame has been cut behind the cab and welded onto a lighter pickup truck frame which kinda makes sense... when I ran the numbers originally she came back as a 1.5 ton dually, not a 1/2 ton... now it's beginning to make sense why...  Tomorrow morning I'll bring all the brake parts in to be machined, but at this point am much more concerned with the king pins and bushings... according to Dave, we should remove the whole front axle and bring it in to some machine shop so those two items can be replaced... sounds like pretty major "surgery" but I know nothing about any other way of doing it... does anyone else? I guess that will be the next issue... tabdoo, thanks for your input on my leaks and problems.
trev, i have heard that king pins are a pain, but never did any myself personally. i had mine installed when i got my new front axle. i can imagine it would be a pain.
and to the administrator, again, i am sorry i goofed and made a small refrence tot he canadian weather.
i too love this site. i am a memebr to a few others, but only have a few posts on them. this site is the best witht he greatest bunch of knowledgable guys with unlimited knowledge.
i have learned so much from this site in only the past 4 motnhs.
i will try my luck again on mine today and hopefully get the bugs worked out.

From 3B:
Whether or not the axle "has" to be removed to work on it depends on a few things, kingpins can be a real bear to remove sometimes, so it might be nice to take it out, so you can take it to a press to remove the kingpins, without the pins removed you can't measure them to see if they are standard or oversize, so you don't know which parts to order [if you can find them], if the axle bore is worn it will have to be machined oversize, so it would have to come out to be machined.
I would not remove the axle until I at least tried to remove the kingpins with it in place. If the axle ultimatly has to come out, you must replace the "U" bolts, most spring shops either have access to or can fabricate new "U" bolts, hope that helps. and as usual it DOES help... thanks Bobb... believe it or not, taking the entire axle is not that bad. you will have everything off anyway, all you will need to do it pull the 4 u-bolts, 8 nuts, and 2 shocks off and it would be so much easier doing on a bench instead of under the truck.

I think they've been working on brakes since the horse and buggy era, have a good reputation and are fairly reasonable on price too... I asked for a ballpark estimate and was told the grand total for everything should be around $120 and they should be ready for pick up by wednesday... not too shabby! Hopefully next weekend dave will have a little time to pop over and reinstall them since it's only the rear brakes going back in... I guess that's the time we'll make a decision about whether the front axle is coming out... if so I'm going to have to find a good shop that does king pins as well! Leonard, with all your knowledge you should be here getting your hands dirty too, not basking in the sunshine down in florida! hey, im am now officially unemployed, laid off last week,so i could use a northern vacation. LOL.
i removed my original front axle and installed my 3 inch dropped axle, but will admit that i did not want to tackle the king pins, so i had sid, the guy i bought the dropped axle from, had him install all new king pins before he sent it all to me. i didnt want to get myself into a situation where i would be stuck at something i have never done before, and need special reamers and such.

I had no idea they even HAD a shop that does work like this but apparently they do... I now have an address and contact info for them although as stated it would sure be great to find some way NOT to take the whole front end apart and just do the kingpins with the front end as it is... I guess we'll see... As for "this weekend" I have no idea if that's when it will go down although I really hope so... however it's not my schedule I'm concerned with... it's all up to Dave and his schedule... Just talked to the shop and they're having a hard time matching it... they're also having difficulty finding a match to a broken off stud on one of the drums... I'll know later today or tomorrow if they were able to find one... The only parts I have bought in the past 24 hours were on ebay. Last night I won a nice glovebox door with a vintage 1 day windup automotive clock in it that will fit either the '36 or '37... Once it gets here I think I'll paint it in grey hammered finish like the dash in the '37 and transplant it into there... should look cool!
