Had a nice discussion at Tom Langdon's yesterday regarding rebuilding my '54 235. I think my engine is stock, but it does have an oil galley through the lifter shafts. I thought he said the truck engines didn't have this.

Anyway, now I have the option of going to hydraulic lifters. Any thoughts or advice?

Also I am thinking about either dual two barrel carbs, or a four barrel. Any advice on this one?

Thanks for any help.

Might be better to stay with mechanical lifters. The hydraulics are sometimes noisy due to a variety of reasons. 54 engines with a Powerglide had hydraulics, I think the lifter oil supply is tapped off the cam or main bearings.I have run both dual 2 throat carbs and several 4 bbls on a 261.In my opinion ,the dual units may work better for ya.Those Holley Webers have spotty quality so look at them closely before plunking down your money.More guys than not like them. The old Holley single bbl carbs found on Mopar and Ferd 6 cylinders, work well on a dual carb manifold also.A few guys have on low budgets has good results running one V-8 type two bbl carb on modified stock manifolds.

Don't know all the internals of the 235 yet but I do work in Ann Arbor. I live just south of you in Blissfield (exit 5 on US23).

I've got some '54 parts if you need anything specific. I've got 2 in pieces and 2 '53s for a few more days. The dump truck is heading to my Mom's place in the UP to haul fire wood for the camp ground! What an easy life...
