Does any one have a good photo of the side mount spare tire carrier?
I need to get one for a 1952 3800 long bed.
Just the bracket, no tire,so I can build one if necessary.

It might not have 100% applicability to your model, but there is a tech tip for a TF mount that might be of help. It has photos (less tire) and dimensions.

I'll go out today and take a pic for you of the one from my 64 if you need it.

It's too bad you're not closer. I have one someone made up. It's pretty sturdy, and it's heavy, so it would cost more than it's worth to ship.

near as i can tell it was made from the pieces that use to make up the under bed spare tire carrier.

i've got more shots of this carrier if you are interested.

There's a pretty good picture here in the link below - very similar to the mounts used on the AD's. It's not visible in the picture, but there's a bar that is mounted horizontally on the backside of the bedsides - held on with the lower bolts in the vertical bars. Somewhere here I think there's a good technical drawing of the sidemount setup.

hi there this may be a little off topic but I just bought an original GM spare tire lock hub and bracket for my 54 gmc, has anyone seen one of these before? it has a gm key to unlock and works on my stock bracket. it is made of cast iron. I could post pictures if anyone wanted.

Here's a scan of the diagram for the 1954 side mount spare carrier. The 1953 version had a slightly different shape due to the different shape of the top edge of the bed side.

Also, slightly different bracket "cages" might have been made for different sizes of tires.

I'm still looking for the right application, It's a 1951 1 Ton, 9 ft, bed, and a 17" tire.
There is no fender indent as there is plenty of length in that area of the bed.
I'd like to put them on both sides.

This is from my '52 half ton long bed. The round spacer looks like it was welded on by the previous owner but the curved bracket had to be stamped into that shape at the factory. A wheel will fit over the curved bracket alone.
If he had a need to weld on that spacer, it'd be a pretty good bet that this wasn't the original bracket for this truck. I can see how it might fit on a short bed with an indented fender. Anyway, it's different than the other brackets so far. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the pictures Rayce, that really shows the carrier from all angles. I for one have never seen that type of lock before. I'm restoring a '50 but do work on other years also and will add the pics to my reference file in case it ever pops up.

By the way DP, that's the saddle, which is part of a 1950 and earlier under bed spare carrier.

Fooled me. It fit so perfectly on the side of the bed. The base was even shaped to fit the profile of the running board apron.
