The GMC engine is longer than the Chevy engine. If its a 270 or 302 you have something worth the trouble to swap.

I plan to use the 216 bell housing to get the rear mounts right but length is my problem,GMC is a little longer. So the wiggle room (if any) is up front.
Should I just move on to a 235?

| | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 | I've seen this done and while not that difficult a swap, the real easy bolt-in for this is a 261 Chevy. The GMC will bolt right up to the 216 or 235 bellhousing this is the easy part.
Another real problem is finding a good GMC without a cracked head or block.
First what every car or truck the longer GMC is going into will need more room up front so see if you can re-mount that radiator forward. Also you can eliminate the GMCs fan and put an electric pusher in front of the radiator, saving a couple inches. If it's a 1955 GMC 248 the block casting should be 2324002.
Looks like 1955 was the last year for the 248.
