Ok guys my father in law brought my digital camera back from the farm for me today so here's the pictures I promised.

These are right after we installed the engine.

Here's the engine tonite pardon the dirty chrome I had a bad radiator and it was spraying the engine compartment. Check out that air cleaner, it came on this engine (58 235) but I'm curious what it would have come on originally?

The new gauges, I finally got the speedo adjusted (now I'm gonna change the rear wheels) once I adjust it again I can put the trim ring on. The Tach is new too, I'm planning on taking it apart and making a face for it to match the others.

Is that paint or ceramic coat on the intake/exhaust?

How is it holding up?

My '57 Chevy (car) had an air cleaner like that. I believe G.M. used that design on cars to accomodate hood clearance problems.

Paul That's Stainless Manifold Paint from Chevy Duty. I was really impressed with how this stuff went on it didn't look very good when we first put it on the freshly sandblasted intake but after it dried for about 20 minutes it filled in nicely. In fact I only slightly sandblasted the exhaust manifold (not the good cleanup I gave the intake) because I'm planning on putting duals on as soon as I get the cash to do new exhaust all the way back. So far it's holding up fine (about 200 miles) I had some gas leak down on the intake from the Carb and it stained it a little but I haven't tried cleaning it off yet as the carb needs work to stop the leak. But for $15 I'd say it's hard to beat plus I've got tons left in the can.

Stingray Thanks, I'll have to do some looking around and see if I can locate one in better shape as my wife loves it and the first thing everyone says when I pop the hood is "look at that Air Cleaner". I've been kicking around the idea of working out a way to modify it to hold a newer paper style element. I would just fill it up with oil but it's got several pinholes in the bottom and would hate for it to leak.

I've got an air cleaner just like that on my 58 - 62 235. There is a small oval brass tag on the top - that has unfortunately been partially ground away by another owner - but if I fill in the blanks and read between the lines it indicates that the filter was manufactured by General Motors in Canada and should be returned to an authorised Pontiac dealer for service. This does line up with a small tag that I found on the carburetor which said Pontiac on it.

By the way - I really like your extended body 5 window cab. By any chance did you ever post any pictures / instructions on how to do it?

Prairie Sailer Thanks for the info on the air cleaner now I know where to look for one. My father and law and I had been talking about making and Extended cab AD truck for some time (I'm tall) and had looked at doing it a few different ways but finally determined it was outside of both of our skill levels and I'm to cheap to consider having it done by a pro. So about the time I had given up on the idea, I found this truck in Iowa for sale. The guy had done lots of work on it but had lost interest so I was able to get it and all the AD parts he had for a very resonable price. It still has a long way to go, and it's looking like the only part from that truck that I'll end up using is the cab. It's been pulled and put on a cab cart at this point. I had a sheetmetal worker buddy build me a custom "Bowtie" firewall for it. And I now have a fresh bare 54 frame sitting in my garage with plans of building up a new chassis for it. The '53 (The truck pictured above) is gonna end up being just a fun driver for the time being in order to keep me motivated on the Extended cab.

If you are looking for some inspiration take a look at the June 2003 issue of "Custom Classic Trucks" - page 44. Contains an article about a modified '53 - I'd swear that it looks just like the cab mods on your extended version.

Where did you get those guages??? What brand are they??

I got my gauges from Chevy Duty But they are made by Classic Intruments I had been thinking about buying them. Then when I was working on my motor I ran by there one day to pick up some unrelated stuff and their they were on the counter starin' at me saying "BUY ME" (Our club gets a discount which sometimes just serves to make me buy stuff I wouldn't normally) So I did, Def. one of the best purchases I've made since I've got the truck, No more bouncing speedo..
If you get a set make sure you order 2 of the trim rings for the holes as they don't fit without them.
