side or is it just a flat piece of rubber that goes between
fender and body...there is nothing at all on mine when I took
the fenders off...thanks in advance

My 46 panel (yet to be worked on) has welting but there is no bead. This doesn't mean that it never had a bead but that there is no sign of it now. Wish I could help more.

There was some "welting" but it is flat and does not have a bead. It actually looks like a piece of flat thick roofing felt. If you are painting fenders black and body another color, then beaded welting will be fine, but in my opinion a light colored one-tone truck just looks awful with a black bead defining the fenders.
