I recently posted in the classifieds, and i had a question. Is the 60-61 body style undesirable? I looked through several of the other ads and it seems like this particular body style is rarely present. I guess my question is am i wasting my time trying to sell the 1961?

Beauty is in the eye of the be(er)holder. The 60/61s are rather unique in their styling- some people like them, some don't. Personally, I like them!

Having "unique styling" can limit your field of potential customers. Fewer customers = less demand = lower price

You might consider researching eBay listing history of 60/61s to see how the prices compare to their conditions.

My opinion: 60/61s tend to command lower prices the other series

Thank you for the response! Your opinion is extremely valuable to me since i "inherited" my '61. I literally know nothing about her, but for some reason i hate to send it to the scrap yard. As far as the price, i am not in it for the money. The junk guy offered 200, so i would gladly take that from someone who wanted the truck for restoration, or even for parts.

Yeah... don't scrap it. smile

I inherited my '61, too. And I absolutely love the truck. I have ever since I first saw the truck, though. It can be harder to find parts for - as I had trouble finding a local rearend and windshield (although I eventually did find both), but once you have it running you have such a unique truck. Especially if it has the original hood. I have only seen one other running 1961 in Columbus. Of course, that one was no where near as cool as mine, ha, ha!

I'd snatch it up for that great price and start another project, but I'm up here in Md. Try posting it on another couple GM truck sites and it'll be gone in no time. check the links folder for other sites to sell on.

The windshield might be worth $100 or more to the right person.

I have a 60 Apache10 stepside and I really like it. It is a pretty rare truck and mine has the original hood and grill that was hard to find. It had a 64 grill on it when I bought it. They also have torsion bar suspension that was only on 60-62's I believe, so they ride pretty nice. It gets a lot of looks too when I'm driving, probably because it's old, but it does look nice. I'm installing power steering on it and I'm just about done, that should help it's driveability. I would post an ad on this site and see what happens.

Nothing wrong with 'em that I can see. If I could find one around here in decent condition, and pretty original, I'd be real happy.

Old 'bolts are hard to come by here unless you got a lotta bucks.

Hey... I just saw your ad (it is for the truck you're talking about here, right?) and it's a panel truck. Even cooler!!! If I was any closer, I would try to buy it right away!!

I absolutely love panel trucks, and really, really hope to own a 60/61 panel some day.

Waterman,

Whatever you do, don't send it to the scrap yard! A '61 panel truck is VERY unusual and collectable.

If you have the time to pull it from the garage, put some air in the tires, and take some good pictures, I think you'll be quite surprised what you can get on eBay.

Since parts will only be available for pick-ups, the key will be how much of the uniquely panel parts are intact. If the rear doors, etc, are all rust free, I wouldn't be surprised to see you get upwards of $2k for it.

Actually that's exactly the truck I was looking for when I got started! If I didn't already have a project, I'd be on the phone with you now!

If you just can't seem to move it, make sure to contact me again before you call the scrap yard please!

B
