Hey everyone,

I just recently acquired a Chevrolet engine head that I do not need, and I would like to resell it - but I have no idea what it is!! It's actually the entire top of the motor with the intake and exhaust manifolds, thermostat housings, etc.

I was told is was a 230 head, but the intake exhaust manifolds are separate, like they are on a 235, and I thought that 230/250s had intake/exhaust manifolds that were attached.

So, anyway, I wrote down all of these numbers, hoping maybe someone here would be kind enough to tell me what it is!!

Here are some numbers from the passenger side of the motor, towards the front: 46F 2088

Towards the back of the motor, also on the passenger side: 2084

On the intake manifold: 3823418, GM 28, F121

And finally, under the valve cover:

towards the front of the motor: GM 18

in the middle: 084

Towards the back: 9962084

Any ideas on what this motor might be, or how I can find out?

Try Googling the casting numbers. I did that with what I thought was a Chevy engine - turned out to be an Olds engine.

Search for "casting number 1234567", or whatever WITH the quotation marks.

Thanks, where do I find the casting numbers on the head? I have read to find casting numbers on the block, but never the head.

Me either. I took pics and posted them, and a lot of guys here were kind enough to help me ID what I had. I used photobucket.

catalog lists head casting # 3962084

No listing with a 9 962084

Right! That was misprint from me, as I just checked the head again and those numbers match exactly.

But one thing that I am confused about, is the exhaust and intake manifolds are divided like on a 235, I thought that 250 intake manifolds were one piece?

Not all 250's had the integrated heads, just the later ones,

The integral-intake head makes a pretty good boat anchor- - - -you've got the better one if the intake unbolts. The exhaust was separate on all the I-6's.
