Has anyone here bought any of the Old Navy Trucks that they used as displays in the stores? A guy here in Raleigh NC has got a few of them for sale at $1500.00 each. No motor or trans. Said interior and all was complete and in nice shape!Thanks Tim

I have seen them on Ebay and they are usually offered without a title. At least for the time that they sat in a store, they didn't rust any further.

If you can see them up close and make a judgement as to their actual condition, you have an advantage. Buying these things sight-unseen is a real gamble. Some are very rough with a lot of bondo but others are a good deal, especially for parts or to Rod out.

Just like buying any other vehicle... it's horse trading plain and simple. If you know what you're looking at you can make an informed decision.

I have seen a few of those trucks. They are fill of bobty filler. theyu do have new grill and some other crome,however I wouldn't give more than $500.00 for the ones I seen. hopefully the truck by you is in better shape. Look it over well

Why would anyone consider buying one of these store props. They come without vin numbers or titles, they have been stripped so they could be put up for display and they may have lots of hidden horrors to be found when you start to work on them. I read somewhere that they were found at junkyards, stripped of the mechanical gear and had a quicky paint job before they were sent out to the stores. I don't believe that they were ever intended to be driven again. There are a lot of nice projects out there for less money, true they don't have the poor fitting reproduction grilles and Earl Scheib blue paint jobs, but hey that's why they call this a hobby!

A couple of the ones I saw on Ebay looked like '54 trucks with '53 or older front clips.
As has been stated, it looks like they cobbled together whatever they could come up with, then threw a paint job on it, and made a store display out of it.
But, to each his own.

They are different condition and different year models. A friend of mine paid $2500 for his but he got to go where "several" were and pick his out. Its true, no title, stipped of brakes wheel cylinders and ect. No motor tranny and so on. My friend deals in cars, runs a shop specializing in transmissions and should know what he is doing. He said this particular truck looked much better than the others, Chrome gille and inside on his is excellent. He said if he parted it out he could make money but since he already has a 53, and a couple parts trucks he feels he made a good deal. He gave me the contact for here but I decided I have enough projects. I hear they go for $500 up to $3500. Buyer beware unless, like someone stated above, you look at what your buying.

A guy in here in Royston Ga. my hometown has bought 23 of them He wants 3500.00 a piece for them I think he's crazy I bought a 1957 6500 with a 14' dump off ebay last year for 980.00 plus 1000.00 shipping and its road worthy MY THOUGHTS Kip Parham

I did a search awhile back. I don't think these trucks are worth what they are asking. For one thing, they used hardware store paint on them, the interior is slobbed in from god knows where, and lastly everything mechanical is gone. They are kind of mix and match too. I saw a GMC with a Chevy front on it. They might be good for some sheet metal parts or the frame, but that's it. I suppose that's o.k. if you want a hot rod, restoring is another.

I think that it would be a noble endeavour to rescue one of these old trucks. I actually crawled under one in an Old Navy one time, they are totally stripped, but I have seen pics on here of projects that came from much humbler beginings! I think it would be kinda cool to 'rescue' one and make it a driver again.

Speaking of Old Navy Trucks.....
I live in Springfield, MO, the parent store of Bass Pro Shops. They have a fabrication shop in Nixa, MO, about 10 miles south.

I had to go past their shop this afternoon and there were six Old Navy trucks sitting in the yard.

They all had chrome grills, chrome front and rear bumpers and chrome hubcaps---after market baby moon type. Two of the trucks had 1954 beds on them.

Two of the trucks had tarps over the tops that were halfway blown off from all the wind we have been having lately.

I have seen an AD Chevy 2 ton at the Bass Pro Shop in Branson Landing. Which is probably flooded by now from all the rain we have been having.

Also at the lot where the trucks were was an old caboose, a whole bunch of fiberglass tree trunks, the old Sammy Lane excursion boat from downtown Branson that ran up and down Lake Taneycomo and a huge metal sculpture of a bass that was on a flatbed bumper pull trailer.

If there is interest, I will go down tomorrow and take a photo of the trucks.

BTW, I sold my 1953 3/4 PU to the first looker. He wanted the interior and motor and trans for his truck. Gulp, I didn't know he was going to part it out, but he paid cash money for it.

I went to deposit the money in my bank account and I had to fill out paperwork swearing I was not a drug dealer, I told them I had a worse habit than drugs, old trucks. They didn't seem to appreciate the humor.

Has anyone noticed that we have a member here who has an Old Navy truck in the Gallery? As someone said, some of our very successful projects came from humbler beginings.
