| | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 204 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 204 | Went to start the truck for the first time in 9 months yesterday and the fuel pump is no longer pumping, I primed it by pouring in some fuel and it pumped into the carb, but it is not pumping form the gallon jug. Any suggestions would be helpful, it is a reproduction of the original style with the glass bowl. For now I will pick up a cheap mechanical fuel pump to jockey the cab around. Motor was re-built just prior to my purchasing the truck and the pump visually looks new, and it ran when it left for body work.

Usually my experience has been that the diaphragm in older fuel pumps will crack once its been exposed to gas and then left to sit for a given length of time. I imagine the newer pumps diaphragms are far better then they used to be.
Can you remove the pumps lid and see if it will pump then? I had that happen once where it just couldnt get the gas clear into the bowl and when I cracked the glass a hair to let the air out it flooded gas all over, but worked fine afterwards.

If the needle and seat is somehow stuck shut it will not allow the fuel pump to transfer fuel. This would be rare though.
My thought would be the check valves inside the fuel pump are stuck from sitting so long. Working, wiggling and tapping on the pump might break them free.
I bought a truck that sat for 8 years, and after the preliminaries, it started right up. The pumps are made to bathe in gasoline.
