We patched the floor and made the new center piece from some Camaro quarter panel scrap and painted it all with Black Rustoleum, for safety sake, we installed a 12 volt electric windshield wiper motor that no longer needs engine vacuum, and the topper... the Mexican blanket upholstery job! http://v8tvshow.com/content/view/546/167/

I had no idea that actually made pre formed seat covers like that. We bought mexican blankets off ebay and sewed them on ourselves. Wasn't to hard to do, but the preformed would have definately been easier.

It would have been like sitting on a picnic table cover! My '54 has 1980s era velour...its pretty tacky (maroon) but in such good shape its far down my priority list to replace...unless you want to hire your self out for more blanket seat cover productions???? | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 | Did you notice those seat covers in the old ad were plastic!? The ad states the pictured seat cover is multi-colored fiber. A multi-color plaid plastic cover is also available. | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 576 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 576 | wow, love the seat cover.how many blankets did you use.this is something i've been thinkin of doin.any details would be appreciated.........dave 1949 Chevrolet 3100 "When this thing hits 88 miles an hour, you're going to see some serious sh%t." -Doc Brown

Yeah,,the nylon,brown,scratchy,"astro-turf" that they use on playfields and mobile home walkways. I have NO IDEA what the person was thinking when they did that. So,,,for the seats,I bought 3 mexican "sarape/blankets" from evil-bay. They work just fine, and look cool too!! Now,,,,I just have to eradicate the rest of the astro-turf from the inside of the truck. ???What the [censored] do people use for brains when they do something like this?? At this point,I dont care cuz all 3 seats are there and everything else that belongs in there is there. All 3 of them were 5'x7' and cost abt. 20.00 ea. A heckuva deal for 60.00 and covering 3 seats. | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 56 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 56 | What were they thinking, ouch! I got mine from e-bay (evil bay, that is funny)

I suggest getting some kind of eyelets and punching them into the fabric where you plan to run the thread, that will help the material from tearing as the thread gets pulled. Then we centered the blanket on the seat from side to side, wrapped it around the back to make sure it reached everywhere and sewed it up and to the seat springs. I didn't remove the material that was on the seat, just put the blankets right on top of the old vinyl or leather what ever that was.
Good luck and I'd love to see pics when you are finished.
