I have a 1958 rear axle and it looks like the parking brake is fairly different. Has anyone converted this to work with the Bendex brakes? What's involved? Do I need to change out the backing plate? (please say no.)
I have to say I now have 4 rear brake drums and not one is complete, so it's all a guessing game right now. I've hit a stopping point and thought I'd look for help hear. I did a search and came up with my own post from over a year ago.
I have the rear drums all put back together with new parking brake parts and new cables, but the cables are too long to attach to the standard cross bar on the '50 chassis.
Has anyone else with an AD truck changed their rear axle to a later axle and connected the parking brakes? How did you do it? Tomorrow I'll post some pics on my webshots page of my confusion point.

Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2003 Posts: 1,377 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2003 Posts: 1,377 | That is the set I used,I could not use the parts on the front end of the cables but they worked well with the 37 parts. Since I have never been into 58 rear brakes before I could not tell you if they will hook up,I used a 8 inch in my 37 and they hooked up to it. Its cheaper to get the cables from someone like Jegs or Summit then from Lokar,they were around 89 dollars. Jeff | | |
