The truck is about 3 1/2 drive from me so I'm trying to get some things sorted out before I take a ride to check it out. Owner told me today that according to the casting #'s that it has a '56 261 engine in it. I asked about the carb and he said that it has an updraft style carb in it and the air cleaner assembly is all complete. Would a 261 fit in a 46 COE or would it take some metal work to fit length wise? From the searches I've done I think the 261 is 1 1/2" longer.

This is a picture of my frame and 235 engine. I guess it would be better if the 1 1/2" were toward the rear. Other then that, join the club!  As already stated no difference in length with the chevy engines. Id crawl under and get the casting numbers if you do go peak at it then check the inliners sight to be sure. Chevy should have a Carter updraft carb.
