51 AD Chevy

Both toe boards where rusted away when I received this truck . I have replaced them and now I'm test fitting my inner fender's. The new toeboards do not have holes in them and I have to figure out where to drill the holes. I'm sure that I could mount the inner and outer fenders together and then hang as a assy, then determine where the holes need to be drilled by using the existing holes on the inner fender.

BUT, I'm trying to to do this by myself and holding a BIG clumsy fender up and marking it is impossiable. Does anyone know of a way that I can determine where the holes need to be on the toeboard for the inner fender mounting? I know that the drivers side uses a e-brake bracket as well.

Thanks
Rick

Rick,I will look tomorrow and see if there are some reference points I could use to get some measurments or maybe I could make you a template. Chip Watford Calhoun,Ga.

Sort of off subject but here goes: this is the great thing about this site. My truck was partially dissembled when I got it and the driver side cowl rotted really bad. I found the e-brake braket but have no idea how it fits to the body as that area is rusted out. By reading THIS post I now know the inner fender bolts to the bracket. THAT explains a lot I was trying to figure out by looking at the holes in the bracket...which, by the way is rusted really bad to. I was planning to ask for a picture later when I eventually get to that point but by READING and watching the post its amazing what we can learn and find out about our old trucks! Thanks guys.

Rick,

I am doing this work now and can shoot some pictures with detailed measurements. I will post them up tomorrow in my webshots and add the link here.

The PO of my truck scabbed a bunch of sheetmetal over my rotted cab floors and the whole E-brake assembly was lost in the process. One of my first posts here was about restoring my E-brake and if you look at THIS POST you'll find links to all the pictures you need.

Also, get a Factory Assembly Manual. There is a detailed breakdown of the E-brake installation in it.

Yeah,Woody, I can appreciate that statement. My floor/cowl rotted real bad, floors patched with what ever was available and the PO tore it all apart. The lower toeboard and edge of where the bracket goes are just plain gone! I have an assembly manual and it is ok but its always nice to see an actual picture like what Denny posted sometime ago. Thanks for everyones input. It'll be awhile before I get there but in the meantime I'm drawing a pic in my head!!

Here is the promised pictures with measurements for the passenger side. From the break line on the firewall the first hole centerline is 1-3/4" down. The next hole centerline is down 5-1/8" and the next is 5-1/4" down. All the holes are 1-1/4" over from the side fold on the floor. I put a stiffener plate on mine that is what you see bolted in place. As I complete the work on my corners I have added some additionl reinforcement where I thought it necessary.
