Has the quality been acceptable? I'm considering an EZ set up, but also thinking of the 400-500.00 set ups and trying to decide what to do. Give me a verdict and I'll rule on it. depends on what you're building and if you want 'original' appearance or are going to add the bunch of extra electrical stuff that EZ and Painless provide for in their "number of circuit" kits

I don't so I used the EZ Wire and would do it again in a New Yok second. If it isn't the EZ'est thing you've ever used then you haven't done it before. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | I used Hot Rod Wires for my '56 and was very happy with them. GM color code but larger wires and plenty of length. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 | OR...if your Scotch like me it depends on whether you want to pay 400-500 for $165 worth of wire and fuse block. (GASP!!!) $165! You must have went for the snazzy stuff! I think Ive spent about $200 now on wiring (8-14 gauge as needed), connectors, heat shrink tubing, etc... Its also given me more then enough to fully complete 2 trucks and easily enough to do another, maybe 2. It takes a little longer but if your patient its fun. But Im Norwegian so maybe thats the difference. Although my square head dont fit under the dash so well sometimes... | | | | | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 888 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 888 | I have yet to rewire my truck but have considered Rebel Wire. They have a small 8 circuit for about $120 and they give a 10% discount to Bolters. The kit itself looks excellent but as I've come to expect from all vendors, the "Detailed Instructions" and anything but... all you get is a single sheet of paper with a list of wires in the kit. Yea, I'm sure I can figure it out but there are no instructions. One of these days someone is going to start a site reviewing products and publicly embarrassing vendors for their obsession with telling people things "bolt right on" or they come with "detailed instructions" when in fact neither is true. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 1,132 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 1,132 | My EZ is going OK but very slowly. Plenty of unnecessary wire for my application. Their text is OK but their schematics must have been drawn by a 4 year old. The underhood schematic for the starter is almost unreadable because the symbol for the starter is so small. Seems like good quality though. Is your wife's name Lena? EZ wire works good for me and its going slow but steady. GM has followed the same basic setups for its pickups from 55 to 87 (and probably beyond). I have customized mine some,so it is nice to have the 21 circuit setup (still way more than I need) Good Luck with the rest of your project. Install just takes a bit of patience. Read the first 4 pages until you are comfortable with what is being said then get busy! Only thing I added were relays for two electric fans powered by two unused circuits (power windows and electric nut crackers??). That way if one gives out the other one trucks on!
Good quality you pay for once. Cheap junk you keep making payments on.

On my 56, I used American Autowire Highway Series and really like it. Cost was about a hundred bucks more than the EZ, but it had separated harnesses and connectors and to me was an easier install than the EZ. The separate fuse panel made life much easier, as did not having all the wires to deal with at one time. For the money though, the EZ is hard to beat. I would not hesitate to use either again. | | |
